Joana Sosa

College Counselor
Round Lake High School

Joana joined the Schuler Scholar Program as an AmeriCorps Scholar Coach at Zion Benton Township High School. After serving at ZBTHS for two years, Joana transitioned into the College Counselor role at Round Lake High School. There, she works closely Scholars and their families through the college process, guiding them and ensuring their understanding of each step, and ultimately helping them find the best fit. Joana graduated from Dartmouth College in 2015 with a B.A. in Sociology. In her time at Dartmouth, Joana interned with the First Year Student Enrichment Program (FYSEP), a program designed to support and empower first-generation students in their transition to college, where she worked closely with the director to brainstorm and implement new ways to provide continued support for students in the program. Joana participated in FYSEP as a first year student and later became a mentor for other students through FYSEP’s mentorship program. Joana’s experiences as a Schuler Scholar and her passion for education and social justice brought her back to Schuler.

Outside of work, Joana enjoys running, dancing, and going on long bike rides with her husband and their dog.

"My philosophy in life and working with students is that your education and your life experiences are things that no one can ever take away from you."
