Stanford University, Class of 2013
With a class ranking of 4/848, Torie finished strongly at Waukegan High School. In addition to her stellar academic performance, she was a three-sport athlete throughout high school and a JROTC cadet. These accomplishments (among others) helped her gain access to Stanford University. She is from a single parent (father) household and is a first generation college student.
While at Stanford, Torie teaches math to elementary school students through a program called F4Ed. She also mentors high school students during the college application process through an organization called the Phoenix Project. In addition, Torie is an active member of the Black Student Union. In her free time she she performs African dance with a group on campus called Kuumba. Torie gives back to the SSP by tutoring scholars in math. This summer she will intern at Google.
