Round Lake High School, Class of 2009
Pomona College, Class of 2013
At Round Lake High School, Gustavo maintained excellent academics while pursuing a variety of extracurricular activities. He served as assistant to the choir director and led the marching band as Drum Major. In the summer of 2008, Gustavo spent time in the Navajo Nation with the Experiment in International Living, an opportunity provided by the Schuler Scholar Program. He was ranked 7th in his graduating class.
At Pomona, in addition to singing with the Pomona College Choir, Gustavo helped establish a new A Cappella group on campus. After his freshman year, Gustavo was accepted to participate in the Pomona Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) which awarded him $4,000 to pursue research in computational chemistry for 10 weeks. He is currently working with Dr. Eric Grosfils, Professor of Geology, as part of a 5 week SURP award and will also be working as an Orientation Committee member to welcome the incoming class of 2015.
Gustavo comes from a low-income family and is the second person in his family to attend college.
