Alicia Adams

Waukegan High School, Class of 2007
Brown University, Class of 2011

The SSP proudly recognizes Alicia Adams as the first Schuler Scholar to enroll in Medical School.  Now a graduate of Brown University, Alicia will attend Rush University Medical College where she will continue researching the social aspects of health.

While at Brown Alicia served as a teacher’s assistant in Physiology, and worked on an intensive research project that will potentially be published within the coming year.  As part of her research, based at a local children’s hospital in Providence, RI, Alicia interviewed low-income families that connected with a social service organization during their hospital visit.  She then followed family members in order to determine whether integrating social services into the primary care visits is a cost effective approach to decreasing perceived levels of stress and improve health outcomes.

Though she describes her work and studies as demanding, she is quick to point out that her time at Brown was a rewarding experience that will undoubtedly positively impact and influence her future in the field of health.
