Exposures

The Schuler Scholar Program provides scholars cultural, civic and social experiences to which they might not otherwise have access. Scholars visit museums, attend the symphony, opera, plays and musicals, travel abroad, visit college campuses, and interact with local, state and national civic leaders. Regular exposures are supplemented with Mega and Mini Schuler Exposures.

Regular Exposures are organized for large groups of scholars (50-100) and are used to give scholars a broad range of experiences.  Recent Exposures include etiquette dinners at local restaurants and banquet halls; the Museum of Science and Industry; and a production of A Separate Peace.

Mega Exposures require scholars to complete an application which is then reviewed by Schuler staff.  Usually 10-12 scholars participate in a Mega Exposure.  Recent Mega Exposures include a 4 day trip to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival; a weeklong Habitat for Humanity build in New Orleans and a two day trip to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Mini Exposures are geared toward small groups of scholars (usually 6-8) and focus on an activity that is of mutual interest to the scholars.  Recent Mini Exposures include an architectural boat tour along the Chicago river with a visit to an Architecture Firm and Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me NPR Recording.
