The Schuler Summer College Program Event occurred on November 11th, 2011 at the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel in Northbrook, Illinois. On Monday, November 21st at Warren Township High School’s O’Plaine Campus, Schuler Scholars either in their senior year of high school or at varying stages of their post-secondary lives met up, along with their parents, to discuss college life, the transition to college, and how the parent-student relationship changes upon matriculation to college. A 2010 graduate of Waukegan High School, Schuler College Scholar Kathleen O'Connor has been tearing up the volleyball courts as a sophomore outside hitter for the Cornell College Rams varsity squad. On the morning of November 5th, 25 freshman and sophomore scholars from Maine East High School volunteered their time and energy at the St. Columbanus Parish Food Pantry.  The pantry serves over 500 families per week, providing food and other necessities in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.  This neighborhood, like many in the cities of the Midwest, is historically blue-collar, and has been hit hard by the economic recession with disproportionately high unemployment.  The director of the food pantry, Mrs. LaVerne…Read more

On Tuesday, November 1st, parents of freshmen Schuler College Scholars came together at Warren Township High School to assemble care packages for 74 Schuler college freshmen.  From hot chocolate and tea to popcorn and candy, the care packages will deliver freshmen many college “essentials!” Plus, packages include Schuler pennants, notepads, and water bottles so that our new College Scholars can share their Schuler pride with their campus communities. This fall Alicia Adams began her medical studies at Rush University in Chicago and was awarded the National Health Service Corps Scholarship.  This prestigious scholarship was awarded this year to 250 students with a demonstrated commitment to providing high quality primary care in underserved communities.
