WTHS Scholars meet Opera star

01/19/2016

Warren Township High School junior Scholars had a particularly exciting core exposure. Prior to seeing the new opera, Bel Canto, Scholars had the pleasure of meeting with one of the opera’s stars, tenor William Burden.

Playing the Peruvian Vice President Rubén Iglesias, Burden spent a few hours talking to Scholars about the play, his background and his career as an opera star. The following Saturday, Scholars then had the opportunity to see Burden in action.

Composed by Jimmy Lopez, Bel Canto is based on the 2001 novel by Ann Patchett. In the opera, a widely reported hostage crisis takes place in Peru, when armed terrorists storm a gala reception at the Vice President’s residence and take scores of international partygoers captive.
