CAP Professional Development Series

09/14/2016

During July and August, College and Alumni Programs (CAP) hosted three professional development events for College Scholars and alumni. CAP kicked off the summer series on July 14th with a fun networking event at the Art Institute of Chicago, called “The Art of Networking.” Scholars in college and alumni learned about networking from Claudia Montgomery, a professional career consultant, and then practiced their networking skills with Schuler mentors over appetizers and dessert. All guests were also treated to a private gallery tours led by Art Institute docents.

Less than a week later on July 19th, CAP hosted the event “Career Connections with Lake County Partners” in order to connect Scholars with employers and alumni working in Lake County. Kevin Considine, the Managing Director at Lake County Partners, led a panel discussion at Schuler’s central offices for college scholars and alumni.  The panel included hiring managers from Lake County corporations who offered insights into the hiring process and advice on career exploration and job searches.

The final event of the series was a graduate school information session led by Beth Kainic, a former School Director with experience in graduate school admissions. Kainic led a panel discussion of Schuler alumni and volunteers who either graduated or are currently enrolled in various graduate programs relating to law, public health, business and medical school. Each person discussed their decisions to go to graduate school as well as the admissions process.
