Maine East Scholars Volunteer at WINGS

02/08/2012

On January 14th and February 4th of 2012, scholars from Maine East High School volunteered their time and energy assisting at the WINGS Program Resale Store in Niles, Illinois.  WINGS, which stands for Women In Need Growing Stronger, provides housing, counseling, and other resources for women who are victims of domestic abuse or homelessness.  All profits from the Resale Store locations directly support these programs.  While volunteering, the scholars partook in a variety of tasks, ranging from staging materials in the stock room to organizing and replenishing the displays on the store to helping take donations of clothing, furniture, and appliances.  These service experiences were possible thanks to the hard work of scholar Jessica Ilc (class of 2015), who led the organization of the event and communication with the WINGS staff as part of her involvement with the Maine East Social Awareness and Action Committee.
