Meet the Interns

By 06/07/2016

Every summer we take on a few College Scholars as interns to help us with important projects and provide College Scholars an opportunity to learn more about the world of nonprofits and education. We are excited to introduce our newest members of the team:

Norbert Austria

I am a graduate of Warren Township High School and am now a senior at DePauw University with an interdisciplinary major that encompasses history, education and philosophy and focuses on the implications of multi-cultural education on student performance and success. I am looking forward to giving back to Schuler for all of the things it has done for me and the doors it has opened. I hope to get a better idea on whether or not I want to work in the education field or pursue a career in law, or combine the two. I am also considering working for Schuler in the future and believe this internship would give me a better picture of what the job would entail.

Christer Hoeflinger

Christer is a rising senior at Lafayette College where he is studying Electrical and Computer Engineering and Math. He graduated from Warren Township High School where he played tennis and was involved in the engineering curriculum. Christer is an Intramural Sports Supervisor at Lafayette while being active in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He hopes to graduate with a job either as a Scholar Coach or an engineer for Tesla Motors working on improving the driving range of electric vehicles. This summer he will be working with Kip and Ron to support the STEM program at Schuler.

Kiara Quinonez

I am a rising junior at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. I am a English Literature and Secondary Education double major. I wanted to be a Schuler Intern because I want to do everything I can to become a better future teacher. I also saw it as an amazing opportunity to give back to the program that has already helped me grow into the person I am today. I'm so excited to start learning more about how the program runs, as well as being in classrooms working with the students themselves. I cannot wait for all the projects we have planned out for the summer.

Jasmine Raizel Martinez

I am a rising junior at Vassar College majoring in Urban Studies with a focus on sociology and design, and minoring Russian Studies. During my time at Vassar, I have gotten heavily involved with the cultural organizations on campus. I was previously the Vice President of the South East Asian Student Alliance and a part of the African Violet Society. I was also a Student Fellow, Vassar's equivalent to a Residential Advisor, and a member of the Barefoot Monkeys, a circus club. In my free time I like to bake, draw and watch movies. I am very excited to work as a General Intern this summer. I hope to learn more about the effects of non-profit organizations on minority students’ academic success, as well as to give back to this amazing program.

Hugo Sanchez

Hola! My name is Hugo Sanchez. I graduated from Waukegan High School in 2013, and I currently attend Amherst College in Amherst, MA. I’m majoring in Computer Science and Spanish, and I just got back from Spain where I finished up my Spanish major. At school, I’m either working as a TA for the Comp-Sci department or I’m working at the help desk as an IT-Specialist at the library. I’m also heavily involved in “La Causa” which is our school’s Latinx affinity club which plans and organizes New England’s largest, free, spoken-word poetry right at Amherst College! I’m looking forward to being a part of the Schuler team as a STEM intern during my last summer as an undergrad.
