Paola Cazares

Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep, Class of 2010
Dartmouth College, Class of 2014

Paola graduated from Cristo Rey Saint Martin in 2010, where her stellar academics and extracurricular activities earned her admission to Dartmouth College. She graduated from Dartmouth College as a first-generation college student with a major in sociology.

On campus, Paola got involved with the Latino/a community and pre-health groups such as the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS). She was also involved in a peer mentor group that aimed to introduce first generation students to college and make their transition easier. In addition to this, she worked in Mexico with English-language teaching. Later in her academic career, Paola had the opportunity to study abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through Dartmouth’s Sociology department.

Paola feels that her college experience has influenced her to start thinking critically about the importance of collective success. As a Dartmouth graduate, she feels a responsibility to give back to her community in any way she can. She will begin giving back to the Dartmouth community in September by working with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese as the Graduate Advisor for La Casa—the Spanish-language affinity house on campus—where she will work with students who are learning Spanish and reinforce what they have learned. As part of her role as Graduate Advisor, she will plan cultural events and invite speakers and performers to enrich the students’ experience of learning a new language. She will spend her spare time applying to graduate schools, so that eventually she can pursue a career in public and community health.
