Brown University, Class of 2011

Alicia Adams is a Brown University graduate and fourth year medical student at Rush Medical College. While at Brown, she worked as a teaching assistant in physiology and did intensive research on the social determinants of health. Part of her project was based at the children's hospital in Providence, RI and explored stress levels of low-income families and whether getting connected to social service organizations changed their perceived stress and improved health outcomes.

At Rush, Alicia has focused on the importance of education in improving the health of communities. She has remained involved with the Schuler Scholar Program and has also helped to design  a health curriculum for Chicago high school students who are committed to eradicating the death gap in their uninsured communities.

Alicia plans to pursue a career in Family Medicine with additional training in high risk obstetrics. She was awarded the National Health Service Corps Scholarship and, after residency, will be a community physician for the underserved.
